Australian Red Cross Incursion Year 6

24/02/2023

Dear Parents/Carers

We are excited to inform you that as part of our classroom learning, Year 6 students have the opportunity to participate in an Australian Red Cross Incursion called ‘In Search of Safety’. It is a free, interactive and informative presentation aligned to the HASS curriculum. The presentation runs for approximately 1.5 hours and comprises of:

  1. Definitions – discussing the differences between asylum seekers, refugees, as well as exploring human rights and multiculturalism.
  2. Simulation Game – involving students thinking about what it would be like to flee their homes quickly.
  3. Real Life Stories – animated video and documentaries portraying the stories of the children who have sought asylum.

Certain parts of the presentation may have the potential to be confronting or difficult to understand. Red Cross staff are trained to answer all kinds of questions in a sensitive and practical manner, as well as assist any student who may be having difficulty. The regular class teacher will be in the rooms at all times during the presentation to assist as well.

The incursion will take place this Friday, 24th February and there is no charge.
