ALP (Accelerated Learning Program)

Lathlain Primary School academic extension program for students, the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP), aims to identify and cater for students who benefit from extended study. The implementation of this program serves as an opportunity for those students selected to develop their high-order, lateral-thinking and problem-solving skills, as students uncover new knowledge and understandings through an inquiry-based model of learning.

The program has a focus in the areas of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) with an aim to challenge students beyond their comfort zone in a supportive environment. The purpose of the program is to assist students in developing their capabilities in critical and creative thinking as they learn to generate and evaluate knowledge, clarify concepts and ideas, seek possibilities, consider alternatives and reflect on learning. Not only will students be challenging themselves academically, but they will also be developing their cooperative learning skills. To ensure a supportive environment to guide student learning, the program will operate in small year level groups.
