Humanities and Social Sciences at Lathlain Primary School

Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) is a key learning area at Lathlain Primary School.
The Western Australian Curriculum for HASS, stipulates that students from Lathlain Primary School are required to study

  • History
  • Geography
  • Civics
  • Citizenship (Years 3-6) and
  • Business and Economics (Years 5-6).

HASS looks to actively develop our students into critical, ethical and informed thinkers across all strands. Technology is regularly integrated into HASS to allow students to research, reflect on respond to the world around them.

Teachers deliver rich learning experiences to their students using a range of engaging resources throughout each year. Students are provided with the opportunity to participate in a range of HASS based excursions and incursions across the school..

At Lathlain Primary School we celebrate Harmony Day and Japanese celebrations which are integrated with our Japanese Language Program.

NAIDOC Week is integral to the HASS curriculum and includes activities focusing on the importance of keeping the Noongar language and culture alive. We closely associate our HASS activities with the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework to ensure students have a very good understanding of the Aboriginal culture.
