Languages at Lathlain Primary School
At Lathlain PS, students in Years 3 to 6 attend one 50-minute Japanese class per week. The Japanese language program develops students’ communication skills and understanding of Japanese language and culture. In doing so, literacy in their first language is enhanced as they seek to make meaning from their learning.
Intercultural understandings are stimulated by engagement with Japanese culture through activities such as singing, dressing up, role play, arts and crafts, cooking, viewing video clips, playing Japanese games and using traditional toys. Cross-curricular links, such as that to the Music program, are enhanced by incursions such as taiko drumming. ICT and the use of iPads also plays an important role.
