GRIP Leadership Conference

On Friday the 10th March, the Lathlain Primary School Student Leadership Team (4 School Leaders and 4 Faction Captains) attended the GRIP Leadership Conference which was held at the Perth Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The Conference was attended by 1,500 year 6 students from Perth and surrounding areas, representing their schools in varying forms as leadership groups. The conference aims to upskill student leaders, giving them a greater understanding of the responsibilities that come with their role and how they can perform these duties to a higher standard in school and the local community.

A conference favourite was definitely a section called ‘loud noises’, which was an interactive and fun way to learn the importance of the democratic process and listening to those around you, all while being noisy – who would have thought they would enjoy that? Another important area was the process involved with creating an idea, developing a proposal and carrying it through to the end and delivering it in the school/community.

A huge thank you goes to Kathy Blakeway who gave up her Friday to attend the conference with the students and help Mr Baker in not losing anyone on the train.

The conference was enjoyed by all that attended, and the leaders are now looking forward to implementing some of the ideas from the day.
