Lathlain Primary School is a Level 5 school situated in the south metropolitan education region. It services the needs of students in the Victoria Park Town suburb of Lathlain. The school is located on the corner of Howick St and Keyes St with an additional entrance from Waller St. It is walking distance to the parklands of the Swan River and Burswood Park.
The school serves a catchment area, which houses mainly professional and business families. Lathlain Primary opened in 1956 and has varied in size, most recently with an increase in students due to the considerable interest in local real estate and proximity to the city of Perth. The school caters for kindergarten to year 6 students. There are presently over 500 students enrolled.
The school employs specialist teaches in Japanese language, music, physical education, visual arts and digital technologies. Selected students are given the opportunity, via the Department of Education’s provision of instrumental teachers, to learn a musical instrument. Extension opportunities are provided to selected students in Years 5 and 6 through PEAC programs.
Extra-curricular activities are offered through Music Rocks Australia, after school soccer and there is a chess club one evening a week. The school has a dance focus in term three each year which culminates in a concert and open night at the school.
Parents are partners with teachers in the education of our students. A community focus has been established at the school which is seen as a hub within the community. A vibrant P&C and hardworking School Council are integral to the overall success of the school.
In keeping with the school motto 'Seek Strive Learn' there is an emphasis at Lathlain Primary School on lifelong learning and learning how to learn.
